On our way to the north-western part of the Etosha Park, we came along a pack of lions that had killed a giraffe the day before. While only one lioness was still hungry, the rest of the pride was lying lazily beside the road, bellies well filled. I was a bit diappointed because there was no time to stop for too long, but we were not out for fun so I enjoyed at least the few moments I could watch them.
Later in the afternoon, we found a dead zebra and not far a bloody-faced and food-fed lion. He was a bit nervous with us around, so we gave him some space to relax.
We did not have to wait for long when his lady joined as well. She was very cuddly, obviously in heat, but it seemed that with a full belly, he was not in the mood.
These sightings are such a privilege. Seeing lions out in their savanna habitat and spending some with them is incredibly special and gives me goosepimples whenever it happens. When their mane gets that golden colouration in the late afternoon sun, and they are looking directly into your eyes, when you hear them breathing or growling, that´s super intense. I love it!
On our way back we were all still amazed from the former sighting when we came around the lion pride from the morning. They have not moved a meter from where we left them. A giraffe obviously lasts long, so why leaving the set table 😊
Good night,
Sininho
