Today I have been out with my boss on a mission to de-collar some animals. Our way led us onto the Etosha Pan, a white, arid, triste, and impressive moon-like landscape that mainly consists of salt.
And while I was breathing in this moment, the tiniest version of the world´s largest bird came along: an ostrich baby. All alone with no adult anywhere around.
What a heart-breaking moment. It walked straight towards me and I wished I could have taken it with me, but we need to let nature decide about its future. I still hope that I just did not see the parents and that it made its way safe back home to its family and not became a snack for the jackals. If so, it served a purpose anyway. Nature does not waste. But of course I hope that Mommy and Daddy will find it first. Let´s keep fingers crossed!
Good night,
Sininho
