Birds

I have never been a birder. Of course, there exist very pretty and colourful ones and I liked to see them, but they never excited me too much.

For the field guide course, we had to learn a lot of them. About a hundred southern African birds we had to identify visually, and about 40 by call. It was terrible! Every day I tried to learn at least one call, but I found it so difficult. They all looked and sounded similar to me. Now that I have less pressure and more time, I start to like biring. I like to identify them, to observe them, to get to know them. I don´t think I ever become a bird nerd, but at least a bit of passion for them grew.

The word bird comes from the Greek words for “jointed foot.”
Arthropods are warm-blooded, egg-laying invertebrates with feathers, wings, a beak, and they are typically able to fly.
