Most people do not really like them nor find them anyhow pretty, but for me, these creatures are just beautiful and interesting and today, they spoiled me with some amazing moments: two Spotted hyenas (Crocuta Crocuta) met at a waterhole for a drink.

Their greeting (a typical sniffing at each other’s genitals) was short and a bit harsh so one decided to rather find another spot with a bit of a distance (which was right in front of my car, how amazing!).
I love hyenas with their beautiful button-like eyes and cute ears and it is just amazing to get a chance to observe them interacting so close and (relatively) calm.

The ostrich in the back was obviously not so happy with the hyena´s presence and kept an eye on it. Especially as the hyena had finished and walked straight into his direction, he got a bit excited. With wings wide spread he tried to scare it and it worked, although the hyena did not seem to have any “bad” intentions at all.
Hyenas are not only scavengers but active and highly successful hunters, armed with a strong jaw that easily crush bones. Still, they are clever enough to avoid the ostrich´s weapon: its powerful clawed feet.
What a sighting! And the springboks obviously enjoyed the show as well 😊

Good night,
Sininho
