It is rutting season and springbok males viciously defend their territory and females. To do so, they not only fight with others, but also “horn” bushes or even soil, some kind of showing off, as it is often done in the presence of females or rivals.

Both, fights and bush-horning, can come with consequences as the pictures show. Broken horns or unwanted facial decoration (must be so annoying) are seen quite regular those days.
It is not only springboks that are a bit aggressive towards each other at the moment. Zebras are highly gregarious animals and form permanent, harem-based units with a core of females including their offspring, and a male – the so-called stallion – that leads and protects the herd. To do so, they fight with any other male that challenges him and you can see them trying to bite each other in the neck or the knees.
These two were not so aggressive yet but still it was quite impressing to see them fighting, biting, and kicking each other.
Good night,
Sininho
