Moving into the Etosha NP

It really happend, I moved to the Etosha National Park. I still cannot believe that I am really here for the next two months. What a coincidence that I met the veterinarian Dr. Axel Hartmann who not only works there but also offered me to stay as some kind of volunteer.

The night before I left I was not even sure if I would manage to get all my stuff together. It looked rather like a honeybadger was searching for food in my room than a structured pack up but eventually I managed to get it sorted.

The first week was already great and most evenings I spent at the camp´s waterhole where I was lucky to see a Lioness with cubs and a Black rhino, drinking together just a couple of metres away from each other. Although a single lion is not a threat for an adult rhino, it is still an unusual and simply great sighting.

It is such a present to have the waterhole right in front of the house and a lot of animals just come and go during the day, giving us guests the opportunity to watch and enjoy them. It is such a beautiful picture to see all the different species together.

Very special are the moments when my way crosses those of the Elephants. Those gentle grey giants have a incredible presence and every encounter is like a present to me. They radiate such a wisdom and calmness and it feels like an honour when they allow me to stay a bit and watch them.

Nevertheless, their mood is quite fragile as well and can change is seconds and an angry elephant is one of the most intimidating things to experience. Anyway, this time nobody got mad or threatened or chased.

Good night,
Sininho
