The sneaky Warthog

Warthogs … they are quite shy animals and most times you only see them from behind, running, and with their tail straight up in the air.

But today it was differen. I assume that the hot and dry conditions made them forget their timid nature for a while.

While we were busy studying in the shade of the nyala tree, hesitantly but consistently, a warthog made its way towards the bird´s waterhole.

He sneaked on us to investigate the situation.

Thought we would not see him. Ha! We did, but to make him feel comfortable, we pretended not to, which made him comfortable enough to bravely move a bit forward.

A last check, a last sip of water, and you can see the relief in his face.

Warthogs love their mud-baths. It not only cools them down but also helps to remove parasites or loose old skin. It must be very stressful for them in those hot and arid conditions. We were not only happy to help them out, but also delighted to have them in camp.

Good night,
Sininho
